WBC tells Pacquiao: Give up 1 of 2 titles

By Roy Luarca
Philippine Daily Inquirer

MANILA, PhilippinesManny Pacquiao will no longer be a two-division champion by July 28.

And chances are, the Filipino superstar will relinquish his World Boxing Council super featherweight crown in favor of his newly won WBC lightweight title.

This developed after the WBC Board of Governors, headed by president Jose Sulaiman of Mexico , ordered Pacquiao to choose between his two championship belts on or before the said date.

After his impressive ninth-round demolition of former WBC lightweight champion David Diaz on June 28, Pacquiao indicated that he would prefer to stay in the 135-pound division rather than slip back to super featherweight.

Pacquiao feels stronger as a lightweight and said he had to starve himself to make weight and snatch the 130 lb championship from Juan Manuel Marquez on March 14 in Las Vegas .

Even celebrated trainer Freddie Roach believes Pacquiao’s body is still growing and it can no longer endure being squeezed back to 130 lb.

In another ruling, the WBC declared the Humberto Soto-Francisco Lorenzo bout in the undercard of the Pacquiao-Diaz tussle a “no contest.”

The WBC also slapped a $2,000-fine on Lorenzo, of the Dominican Republic , for “unethical and false pretenses.”

Soto was on the verge of knocking out Lorenzo in the fourth round when one of his blows landed at the back of Lorenzo’s head.

Bloodied and outclassed, Lorenzo pretended to be hurt and did not rise, prompting referee Joe Cortez to disqualify Soto after consulting with officials of the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

This did not sit well with the WBC, which junked the ruling and ordered a thorough review of the fight tape.

Soto is being bruited about as Pacquiao’s likely opponent on Nov. 15 in the 135 lb division due to delays in Venezuelan Edwin Valero’s medical clearance to fight in Las Vegas .

Due to several cuts and the broken nose he sustained against Soto, Lorenzo will not be allowed to fight by the WBC until Dec. 26.

Meanwhile, the Nevada State Athletic Commission bared that the Pacquiao-Diaz showdown drew 9,630 paying patrons and raked in $3,350,730 at the gates. It also reportedly drew about 250,000 pay-per-view buys in the United States and Canada .

Just please read and it's up to you to decide what's best to do.

THE LAST SECRET OF FATIMA

The Church has given permission to reveal to the people the
last part of the message. The blessed Virgin appeared to three children in
Fatima, Portugal
, in 1917. This is proven fact, one of these children
is still alive, her name is Lucia; she is a cloistered nun and lives
in a monastery in Portugal .

(N.B. Sister Lucia died at the age of 97 on 13 February 2005
at her Carmelite convent in Coimbra, Portugal, after a long illness.
Living in isolation in the cloistered convent, Sister Lucia reportedly
lost her eyesight and hearing in the months preceding her death.)

Lucia discl o sed the message of the first time to Pope Pius XII who,
after reading it, sealed it and stored it away without making it public.
Later Pope John XIII read it and, in the same manner as his predecessor
he kept it out of the public eye because he knew that once revealed,

it will bring desperation and panic to human kind.

Now the time has come, and permission has been granted from Pope John
Paul II to reveal it to the children of God, in order not to create
panic but to make people aware of this important message so everybody
can be prepared.

The Virgin told Lucia: "Go my child and tell the world what will come
to pass during the 1950's-2000' s. Men are not practicing the
Commandments that our Father has given us. Evil is governing the world
and is harvest in g hate and resentment all over. Men will fabricate
mortal weapons that will destroy the world in minutes, half of the
human race will be destroyed, the war will begin against Rome , and
there will be conflicts amongst religious orders.

God will allow all natural phenomena like smoke, hail, cold, water,
fire, floods, earthquakes, winds and inclement weather to slowly
batter the planet. These things will come to pass before the year 2010.
"Those who won't believe, this is the time" your beloved mother
told you "those lacking charity towards others and those who do not
love thy neighbor like my beloved Son has loved you, all cannot
survive. They will wish to have died, millions are unimaginable, they
will come, and there is no doubt..

Our Lo rd God will punish severely those who do not believe in him,
those who despise him and those who did not have time for him. "I call
upon all of you to come to my son Jesus Christ, God helps the world
but all those who do not show fidelity and loyalty will be destroyed".

Father Agustin, who lives in Fatima, said that Pope Paul gave him
permission to visit sister Lucia who is a Cloistered nun (she does not
leave the monastery nor is allowed to receive any visitors). Father
Agustin said that she received him greatly overwhelmed and told him:
"Father Agustin, our lady is very sad because nobody is interested in
her prophecy of 1917, though the righteous are walking through a
narrow path the evil ones are walking through an ample road that is
leading them straigh t to their destruction, believe me father, the
punishment will come very soon. "Many souls will be lost; many nations
will disappear from the earth. But, in the middle of all these, if
men reflect, pray and practice good deeds, the world can be saved. One
of all these, if men persist with its evil, the world will be lost forever..

The time has come for all to pass on the message of our Blessed Lady
to their families, friends, and to the entire world. Start praying, to
make penitence and sacrifices. We are at the last minute of the last
day and the catastrophes are near. Due to this, many that were far
from the church will return to the open arms of the Church of Jesus
Christ. The joining of the churches will result in one Holy Catholic

and Apostolic Church , England , Russia , China , Jews, Muslims and
Protestants. All will return believing and worshipping God our
creator, in his beloved Son and in our Blessed Mother Virgin Mary"

What awaits us? Everywhere there will be "Peace Talks", but
punishment will come. A man in a very important position will be
assassinated and this will provoke the war. A powerful army will
dominate all through Europe and the nuclear war will commence.

This war will destroy everything, darkness will fall over us for 72
hours (three days) and the one third of humanity that survives this
obscurity and sacrifices, will commence to live a new era, they will
be good people. In a very cold night, 10 minutes before midnight, A
GREAT QUAKE will shake the earth for 8 hours. This will be the third
signal that God is who governs the earth. The righteous and those who
propagate the faith and the message of the Lady of Fatima SHOULD NOT
FEAR, DO NOT BE AFRAID.

WHAT TO DO??? Bow your heads, kneel down and ask God for forgiveness
because only what is good and is not under the power of evil will
survive the catastrophe, in order for you to prepare and remain alive.
I will give you the following signs: ANGUISH.. AND IN A SHORT PERIOD
THE EARTHQUAKE WILL COMMENCE.. THE EARTH WILL SHAKE.

The shake will be so violent that will move the earth 23 degrees and it will return it
to its normal position. Then, total and absolute darkness will cover
the entire planet. All evil spirits will be mingling around and free,
doing harm to all those souls that did not want to listen to this
message and those who did not want to repent. To the faithful souls,
remember to light the blessed candles, prepare a sacred altar with a
crucifix in order to communicate with GOD and implore for His infinite mercy..

All will be dark; IN THE SKY A GREAT MYSTIC CROSS will appear to
remind us the price that HIS beloved Son had to pay for our
redemption. In the house the only thing that can give light will be
the HOLY CANDLES.. Once lit, nothing will put them off until the three
days of darkness are over. Also you should have Holy water that should
be sprinkled abundantly on windows and doors. The Lord will protect the

property of the chosen ones. Kneel down before the powerful cross
of my beloved Son, pray the Rosary and after each Hail Mary you must
pray the following: "Oh God forgive us our sins, preserve us from fire

of hell, and take all souls to heaven, especially those who are in
more need of thy mercy. Blessed Virgin Mary protect us, we love you,
save us and save the world..

Pray 5 Creeds and the rosary which is the secret to my Immacualate
Heart. All those who believe in my words go and take the message to
everyone. DO NOT FEAR, FEAR NOTHING DURING THE LORD'S GREAT DAY.
Talk to all the souls now that there is time, those who keep quiet will be
responsible for all those souls who will perish in ignorance. All
those who pay humbly the rosary will h ave the protection of heaven and
those who are bound to die. I will help them die in peace and they
will be holy when they enter the other world. I wish all my children
to attend mass every first Friday and every first Saturday of each
month, to confess and receive Holy Communion and in doing, do save the
world from its TOTAL DESTRUCTION.

When the earth shakes no more, those who still do not believe in our
Lord will perish in a horrible way.. The wind brings gas and it will
disperse it everywhere, then the sun will rise. Maybe you will survive
this catastrophe. Do not forget that God's punishment is holy and ONCE
IT HAS STARTED YOU SHOULD NOT LOOK OUTSIDE, UNDER NO

CIRCUMSTANCES; GOD DOES NOT WANT ANY OF HIS CHILDREN
TO SEE WHEN HE PUNISHES THE S INNERS.

All this encompasses with the writings of the Holy Scriptures. Read
on the New Testament: Lucas 21- 5:121, 12:19, 20:20, 29:33, Letters of
St. Paul 3-8:4, Isaiah 40 1:5:9. You must understand that God allows
all this to happen. The Pope and Bishops are now awaiting another
message that speaks about repentance and prayer. Remember that God's
words are not a threat, but good news.. Please arrange to forward to
all your friends so we all can have the opportunity to repent and be
saved. We do not know if those receiving this message believe or not
in GOD, but think that if you are receiving this message is for reason!!

Maybe the Creator is giving us the chance to be saved, no matter what
religion or creed. If you don't believe this messa ge at least sen d it
to others, it costs you nothing. To all those receiving it, they can
have the opportunity to judge for themselves. Remember that we can
avoid a great deal if we practice the commandments that our Father God
lefts us. There are 10 simple things, that if we all put in practice
we can obtain God's pardon.

Air McFly

Walk a Mile in McFly's Shoes

by Mike Krumboltz

July 9, 2008 12:16:00 PM

1989 was a big year. The Berlin Wall fell. The Exxon Valdez spilled its guts. And there were protests in China's Tiananmen Square. But those were just side attractions to the year's most memorable moment—the debut of Nike's "Air McFly" sneakers in "Back to the Future 2."

The film, which largely took place in the year 2015, introduced viewers to many a futuristic wonder, but none were so iconic as the light blue high-tops worn by Michael J. Fox. Ever since the film premiered, folks have been begging Nike to produce the shoes for the masses. Now, Nike has finally obliged... sort of.

The shoes were recently revealed at an event headlined by Kobe Bryant. Ever the showman, the hoopster even arrived in a DeLorean. Fans lined up way in advance, but according to Wired, many went home disappointed. Nike only made 350 pairs of the specially designed kicks, not nearly enough to satisfy the fans.

The shoes were released in a very limited quality, but for hardcore fans who were shut out, there's always the capitalist slaughterhouse that is eBay. Pairs are currently going for up to $1,000 (power laces not included). As Doc Brown would say, "Great Scott!"

Watermelon yields Viagra-like effects - study

07/03/2008 | 11:49 AM

LUBBOCK, Texas - A slice of cool, fresh watermelon is a juicy way to top off a Fourth of July cookout and one that researchers say has effects similar to Viagra — but don't necessarily expect it to keep the fireworks all night long.

Watermelons contain an ingredient called citrulline that can trigger production of a compound that helps relax the body's blood vessels, similar to what happens when a man takes Viagra, said scientists in Texas , one of the nation's top producers of the seedless variety.

Found in the flesh and rind of watermelons, citrulline reacts with the body's enzymes when consumed in large quantities and is changed into arginine, an amino acid that benefits the heart and the circulatory and immune systems.

"Arginine boosts nitric oxide, which relaxes blood vessels, the same basic effect that Viagra has, to treat erectile dysfunction and maybe even prevent it," said Bhimu Patil, a researcher and director of Texas A&M's Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center . "Watermelon may not be as organ-specific as Viagra, but it's a great way to relax blood vessels without any drug side effects."

Todd Wehner, who studies watermelon breeding at North Carolina State University , said anyone taking Viagra shouldn't expect the same result from watermelon.

"It sounds like it would be an effect that would be interesting but not a substitute for any medical treatment," Wehner said.

The nitric oxide can also help with angina, high blood pressure and other cardiovascular problems, according to the study, which was paid for by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

More citrulline — about 60 percent — is found in watermelon rind than in the flesh, Patil said, but that can vary. But scientists may be able to find ways to boost the concentrations in the flesh, he said.

Citrulline is found in all colors of watermelon and is highest in the yellow-fleshed types, said Penelope Perkins-Veazie, a USDA researcher in Lane , Okla.

She said Patil's research is valid, but with a caveat: One would need to eat about six cups of watermelon to get enough citrulline to boost the body's arginine level.

"The problem you have when you eat a lot of watermelon is you tend to run to the bathroom more," Perkins-Veazie said.

Watermelon is a diuretic and was a homeopathic treatment for kidney patients before dialysis became widespread.

Another issue is the amount of sugar that much watermelon would spill into the bloodstream — a jolt that could cause cramping, Perkins-Veazie said.

Patil said he would like to do future studies on how to reduce the sugar content in watermelon.

The relationship between citrulline and arginine might also prove helpful to those who are obese or suffer from type-2 diabetes. The beneficial effects — among them the ability to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does — are beginning to be revealed in research.

Citrulline is present in other curcubits, like cucumbers and cantaloupe, at very low levels, and in the milk protein casein. The highest concentrations of citrulline are found in walnut seedlings, Perkins-Veazie said.

"But they're bitter and most people don't want to eat them," she said. - AP

you guys.) Don't save it for a special occasion.  Today is special.
25.    No one is in charge of your happiness except you.

Stay in touch.
32.    Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful or joyful.
33.    Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
34.    The best is yet to come.

36.    Do the right thing!
37.    Call your family often.
38.    Each night before you go to bed complete the following statements: "I am
thankful for __________." Today I accomplished _________.
39.    Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
40.    Enjoy the ride. Remember that this is not Disney World and you certainly
don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life so make the most

May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more. And may nothing but
happiness come through your door!

How Much Sleep Do You Really Need?

By LAURA BLUE Tue Jun 10, 4:00 PM ET

Sleep is one of the richest topics in science today: why we need it, why it can be hard to get, and how that affects everything from our athletic performance to our income. Daniel Kripke, co-director of research at the Scripps Clinic Sleep Center in La Jolla, Calif., has looked at the most important question of all. In 2002, he compared death rates among more than 1 million American adults who, as part of a study on cancer prevention, reported their average nightly amount of sleep. To many his results were surprising, but they've since been corroborated by similar studies in Europe and East Asia. Kripke explains.

Q: How much sleep is ideal?

A: Studies show that people who sleep between 6.5 hours and 7.5 hours a night, as they report, live the longest. And people who sleep 8 hours or more, or less than 6.5 hours, they don't live quite as long. There is just as much risk associated with sleeping too long as with sleeping too short. The big surprise is that long sleep seems to start at 8 hours. Sleeping 8.5 hours might really be a little worse than sleeping five.

Morbidity, [or sickness,] is also "U-shaped," in the sense that both very short sleep and very long sleep are associated with many illnesses - with depression, with obesity, and therefore with heart disease and so forth. But the [ideal amount of sleep] for different health measures isn't all in the same place. Most of the "low points" are at seven or eight hours, but there are some at six and some even at nine. I think diabetes is lowest in seven-hour sleepers, [for example]. But these measures aren't as clear as the mortality data.

I think we can speculate [about why people who sleep 6.5 to 7.5 hours live longer], but we have to admit that we don't really understand the reasons. We don't really know yet what is cause and what is effect. So we don't know if a short sleeper can live longer by extending their sleep, and we don't know if a long sleeper can live longer by setting the alarm clock a bit earlier. We're hoping to organize tests of those questions.

One of the reasons I like to publicize these facts is that I think we can prevent a lot of insomnia and distress just by telling people that short sleep is OK. We've all been told you ought to sleep eight hours, but there was never any evidence. A very common problem we see at sleep clinics is people who spend too long in bed. They think they should sleep eight hours or nine hours, so they spend eight or nine hours in bed, with the result that they have trouble falling asleep and they wake up a lot during the night. Oddly enough, a lot of the problem [of insomnia] is lying in bed awake worrying about it. There have been many controlled studies in the United States, Great Britain and other parts of Europe that show that an insomnia treatment that involves getting out of bed when you're not sleepy, and restricting your time in bed, actually helps people to sleep more. They get over their fear of the bed. They get over the worry, and they become confident that when they go to bed they will sleep. So spending less time in bed actually makes sleep better. It is in fact a more powerful and effective long-term treatment for insomnia than sleeping pills. View this article on Time.com

50 Unforgettable Movie Lines

By Monette Quiogue
Philippine Daily Inquirer
First Posted 06:03:00 06/01/2008

MANILA, Philippines - Some people view the movies as art imitating life. But have you ever heard people in real life speak with such color, an abandon of choice metaphors and razor-sharp wit? You might say that because movies are a slice of life condensed in two hours, the drama and emotions even in ordinary conversations are scrunched up within that short period instead of being allowed to spool out naturally over time. Especially in local movies, people sound like they've been saving their venom for years until it becomes so thick and viscous it's literally spilling out of the screen and into our memory bank. Well, who can forget these lines?

1. "You're nothing but a second-rate, trying hard copycat!"-Cherie Gil, "Bituing Walang Ningning" (1985)

2. "Para kang karinderyang bukas sa lahat ng gustong kumain."-Vilma Santos, "Palimos ng Pag-ibig" (1985)

3. "Walang himala! Ang himala ay nasa puso ng tao! Nasa puso nating lahat!"-Nora Aunor, "Himala" (1982)

4. "My brother is not a pig! My brother is not a pig!

13. "Sabel! This must be love!"-Carmi Martin, "Working Girls" (1986)

14. FPJ: "Ang problema sa 'yo, maaga kang ipinanganak."

Sharon: "Ang problema naman sa 'yo, huli kang ipinanganak!"-Fernando Poe Jr. and Sharon Cuneta, "Kahit Konting Pagtingin" (1990)
